The Falls and Dams of Great Falls
Lewis and Clark encounted FIVE of these 'great falls', delaying their trip by over a month, portaging around them. Three of the falls now have dams on them, a fourth is affected by the dam above it, and a fifth is now submerged, due to the dams.
The remaining four falls are pictured in as they would be encountered going downriver. L & C would have encountered (and portaged around them) in the opposite order, of course.
A fourth dam (there are five total in the area) is also pictured at the end, as it is the 'lowest' in the whole series. Unencumbered waters after that until Fort Peck area.
